[Outline] The Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University invites applications for a tenure-track or a fixed-term assistant professor position, starting on September 1, 2021 or April 1, 2022. We are interested in candidates with research interests in the fields of applied microeconomics. The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate's qualifications. [Number of position] 1 or 2 [Employment status] tenure-track or fixed-term assistant professor The term of the contract of a fixed-term assistant professor is fixed to three years, and the contract cannot be renewed. The term of the initial contract of a tenure-track assistant professor is three years and, depending on academic work, the contract can be renewed once for two more years. The tenure decision will be made within the five years on the basis of academic work such as publications in refereed journals and teaching performance. The successful candidate will teach mainly applied microeconomics courses (especially industrial organization, international economics or development economics) for graduate students and for undergraduate students. In addition, she/he will be expected to teach core course subjects such as Introductory Economics. A successful candidate for assistant professor is expected to teach 4 classes (8 credits) in one academic year on the basis of the candidate's qualification. Note that each class meets 13 times (105 minutes each) twice a week under an academic quarter. Two credits mean class meeting twice a week during an academic quarter (6.5 weeks). Seminar class meets once a week through all academic quarters. Each class is 105 minutes long. Administrative duties include shared responsibility for entrance examinations. |

Requirements for the position: (1) Ph.D. in Economics (or related fields) (A copy of certificate should be submitted after job decision). (2) Fluent communication skills and teaching skills in English (3) Candidate must have ability to advise students in Japanese or English. (4) Tenure-track assistant professors are requested to have sufficient proficiency in Japanese language necessary for engaging in administrative duties including entrance examinations in Japanese when they have tenured position. |
