Job Opening for a nontenured assistant professor (Econometrics)

Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University invites applications for a nontenured assistant professor position beginning in April 2022. The assistant professor’s research field should be econometrics or its related field.

5.Job description (1) Teaching obligation
To teach courses such as "Introductory Econometrics" (undergraduate; 4 credits) and "Intermediate Econometrics" (graduate; 4 credits).
Each four-credit course meets 26 times (105 minutes each), twice a week, during two consecutive academic quarters (13 weeks in total).

(2) Administrative functions
Shared responsibility for committee membership, entrance examinations, and other administrative functions may be assigned.
6.Qualifications (1) Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. or complete it within three months after the time of appointment.
(2) Candidates must have the ability to give lectures both in Japanese and in English.
7.Starting date April 1, 2022
8.Job type Nontenured assistant professor. The term of the initial contract is three years. Depending on his/her academic performance, the contract can be renewed once, for two additional years (at most five years in total, but no further extension and no promotion).
9.Deadline for application September 30, 2021 (Japan Standard Time) is the deadline for receipt.
10.Application materials (1) Curriculum vitae with a recent photograph of yours attached.
(2) A list of academic works (please specify peer-reviewed publications).
(3) At least two letters of recommendation (in English or Japanese) from referees familiar with the applicant's academic skills or teaching experience. For the candidate before receiving a Ph.D. degree, the supervisor or someone equivalent should write in the letter about the status of the Ph.D. thesis and whether the candidate will complete the Ph.D. within three months after the time of appointment.
(4) Certificate of Ph.D. degree (if received). Transcript in the doctoral course if the candidate did not receive a Ph.D. degree.
(5) Representative academic works (maximum three works).
11.Selection process (1) First stage: Document screening.
(2) Second stage: Seminar presentation and interview, which may take place on-line. In case of the in-person presentation and interview, applicants' travel expenses and hotel stay for interviews will not be reimbursed.
