Job Opening, Tenure-track Assistant Professor, Tenured Associate Professor or Tenured Professor: Macroeconomics

Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenured Associate Professor or tenured Professor in the field of macroeconomics.

5.Job description (1) Teaching courses:
Graduate-level core course such as Advanced Macroeconomics and/or Intermediate Macroeconomics.
Graduate-level or upper-year undergraduate-level course related to macroeconomics.

(2) Teaching obligations:
(For tenure-track position) 8 credits (= 4 courses per academic year; each course consists of 13 classes, where each class is 105 minutes long). In principle, there is no requirement for teaching "seminars".
(For tenured position) 6 credits from regular class teaching, plus undergraduate and graduate "seminars".

(3) Administrative function:
Successful candidate is required to share the responsibility for committee memberships, entrance examinations, and other administrative duties.
6.Qualifications (1) Successful candidates must have completed their Ph.D. or be near completion within three months after the start date of appointment.
(2) Successful candidates must have enough English proficiency to give lectures in English.
(3) Successful candidates must also have enough Japanese proficiency to advise students and engage in administrative duties.

8.Tenure decision The term of the initial contract for the tenure-track assistant professor is three years. The initial contract can be renewed for two additional years, depending on academic performance, only once during the maximum contract term of five years. The tenure decision will be made within those five years on the basis of research outcomes (such as publications in leading refereed journals) and teaching performance.

An applicant, who already has a sufficiently strong academic record, will be considered for a tenured position.

(1) a cover letter (please indicate if your application is for the tenure-track or the tenured position),
(2) curriculum vitae, in English or Japanese, with a recent photograph of yours attached,
(3) a list of your academic works (please indicate if publications are peer-reviewed or not), seminar and conference presentations, and educational activities,
(4) at least three letters of recommendation,
(5) a copy of a certificate of the completion of the Ph.D. degree, and
(6) electronic files of your research papers (three papers at the maximum for tenure-track position, and five for tenured position).

If an applicant has yet to earn a Ph.D. degree, we ask reference letters to describe the current state of the applicant's Ph.D. thesis, and to confirm that the applicant will earn the degree within three months after the start date of appointment.
11.Selection process (1) First stage: Document screening.
(2) Second stage: Seminar presentation and interview. Please note that we will set up the job seminar and interview on online via Zoom.
